RE: Good Sam's Emergency Road Service -- Non-service

I have nothing but praise for GSERS. I’ve used them somewhere around six or seven times in the past four years. Every time I’ve called I’ve always had great service. My son has actually used them twice in the past few months for towing service. They've never questioned anything, always done what they were supposed to do. Have you priced a tow lately. My nephew was on his way down to Tampa just last month and hit something at night with his car. It damaged something underneath and it got hot quick. He had to stop and get it towed. He had to pay a 175.00 dollars to be towed to the next town which was 25 miles down the road.

RE: Buying a Ford F450???

You should get a heck of a deal, I don't think they are moving much at all. I’ve driven by the same two that has been on the same lot for over a year now. They've moved them from the front to the rear lot in the last couple of months. All the small cars are out front now.

RE: Best route from Pigeon Forge, TN to Cherokee, NC

If your husband feels comfortable about driving tight curves and you have good power and brakes then I'd go over the mountains as well but I'd do it real early in the morning, before it got bumper to bumper traffic. That way if you did need to pull over there would be a place to pull over too. Most of the pull over spots fills up during the day with sight see-ers

RE: Topsail changes...for the bad?

As far as the golf carts are concerned, I guess we will just have to wait and see how that plays out. I don’t foresee them enforcing the rules because I’ve seen how they enforce the pet rules. They Don’t! As far as the tent section being allowed to have a clothes line up and putting down a screened-in canopy, give them a break. One of the reasons they don’t allow it on the RV sites is the sprinkler system and probably the underground utilities. This is a state park and everyone is welcomed. It's for everyone!

RE: Headed for the Keys (requests?)

Barry, I don't need any but I just wanted to say that what you have offered here is what the forum should be all about. Thanks

RE: Good Sam RV Emergency Road Service

I’ve had to use Good Sam several times. Here’s a few examples 1. Wife locked keys in trunk at family reunion. It was located in a rural town in Florida, they were there in less than a hour. 2 Second time I used them, we were at Long Key in the Florida keys, wife laid the keys on the counter top and then went back out and shut the door, it locked behind her. I had a extra set in the truck but it was locked as well. They showed up in 45 minutes and that was in the Keys, unlocked my truck and we retrieved the camper keys. 3. Wife had a flat, called them they showed up and repaired the flat in 30 minutes. 4. Son’s truck wouldn’t start in the driveway, called them up and they towed it to a repair of his of his choice in town. 5.Son’s car, wouldn’t start , called them up and they towed it to the repair shop. We’ve had great service with them, Coach Net couldn’t have done it anything better. Also you notice they never mention the price of Coach Net., I wonder why? I’m sold on them.

RE: Best Shows and Dining in Smokies

Dixie stampede for a dinner show and for lunch Old Mill Restaurant is a must. Both of them in Pigeon Forge. My favorite breakfast place is the Back Porch located in Townsend.

RE: Another truck was stolen

All we need to eliminate the illegals on the border is a 'shoot on site' order - it would STOP this nonsense...but then, that's not 'politically correct' now, is it? But then, the death penalty isn't 'politically correct' either...but in Texas, we have an express lane. Now if the Native American Indians had guns and land mines when our ancestors came across the borders I guess we would not have this "nonsense" to worry about. What made our ancestors entry into this country legal? If they want to come over fine, I have no problem with that, but do it the right way, just like any other Country. They shouldn’t get any special treatment. Sneaking over the border is breaking the law period. Trespassers should be shot and the ones hiring them over here illegally should be hung!

RE: To all 5ver drivers, a ? 4 U.

NO more duallys for me. I would go with the 3/4 ton 4x4 or a 1 ton SRW 4x4 myself. I have owned all, check my pictures. It’s not like the old days where you had a significant difference in the mileage between a 2x4 and 4x4. As a matter of fact my 1 ton 4x4 SRW got 3 miles to the gallon better than my 1 ton 2x4 dually. The traction on the dually sucked!

RE: Dodge 3500 diesel single axle 4.10

If you do any hwy driving stay away from it. Poor mileage. I would look for the 3.73 with fuel prices only going up.

RE: A "How To?" Displaying The Flag Question

Speaking of Colorado, whatever you do don't get Rene Marie to sing the National Anthem, like what happened in Denver yesterday. It was a disgrace as far as I’m concerned. CLICK HERE FOR STORY

RE: Early Parking for Topsail

have you ever stayed at Topsail in late Feb? How is the weather at that time of the year? January & February are the coldest months. Usually in the 50s or 60s for the high with few clouds. Temps sometimes reach the 70s with little or no wind. But when a cold front blows in, the winds can be high from the North, causing the water to be rough. It can freeze but usually only last a couple of nights in a row if it does. Nothing you can’t handle. You don’t have worry about taking any precautions with your unit. The beaches are mostly deserted. It's beautiful tho, that time of year when the wind is calm the water is extra clear and has more than usual color.

Just for knowledge

A general rule of thumb: A dollar increase in the crude oil price per barrel will result in a 2.5-cent increase in the price of diesel fuel per gallon. Likewise, a dollar decrease in the WTI crude oil price per barrel will result in a 2.5-cent decrease in the price of diesel fuel per gallon.

RE: 2008 jetta diesel fuel mpg !!

My wife's gets about 40 with mixed driving, 45+ all highway. Some diesels go together better than others and you'll find a few guys getting 60+ mpg out of the early 2000s VWs. Check out Fred's TDI club for more info. Interesting, I have been getting 26 city and 31 to 33 highway with my Jetta gasser 2.5 6 speed auto. Looks like the government says it gets less. With the cost of diesel, maintenance, and initial cost I don't see an advantage. When I was looking at them the asking price for the TDI's were 4k+ more. I agree, I wouldn’t own diesel except for towing now days. Not worth it. The days of diesel being cheaper are long gone. The higher the price of a barrel of oil the more the spread between the price gas and diesel is.
